My First ISS Viewing - One Year Ago

~One year ago today, Oct. 25, 2020~

Today marks one year since the first time I began looking for the International Space Station!🛰

Watching it go by has reminded me time and time again about the wonders of what we can accomplish, and inspired me to keep going. Like a streak of light in the night sky, it appears and disappears quickly, making each view precious and unique.

The first time I ever saw the ISS flyover was probably also the best one. It was around 7am on a Sunday, so I didn't have to wake up too early for it, and even better, the sunlight was just starting to pour over the horizon, something that's not always the case. (The station is only visible at dawn or dusk, because it can only be seen when the sunlight can reflect off of it and when it's dark enough to see that.) A lot of the time, it's already quite dark by the time it flies over, but this was a perfect sunrise day with few clouds and great viewing conditions. I even was able to see the planet Venus! (Last picture) It was something I hadn't been able to do that year yet, because it always rises in the middle of the night and sets in the day, and I never woke up early enough to see it.

This year, the ISS flew over my house again on the same day, but it's far from good viewing weather, with nothing but clouds blankets for days. Alas, I am left to reminisce on this profound moment I had in my life, and dream of when I may see it again...
