Crème Brulée Day - Mar. 19, 2021

Writer's picture: Keira LaiKeira Lai

March 19 is my mom's birthday! For her birthday, my dad and my brother made some homemade crème brulées! Actually, it was more like my brother made them while my dad taught him the steps. They were so satisfying and delicious to eat and enjoy together as a family at home, and I'm happy that we can spend time together like this!

During the process of making them, I took some videos and photos of the process, which I'm going to put here!

The dishes and the ingredients~!

Separating the egg yolks using my adorable piggy tool! It makes separating the eggs super easy!

Mixing together ingredients on the stove, like the whipping cream, tea, and eggs! Once it was heated, they let it cool and then poured it into the dishes! (I wasn't fully involved in the making process so I'm not sure it I got all the steps right)

Adding water and preparing to put the crème brulée in the oven!

Once the crème brulée was finished baking in the oven, they put it in the fridge to cool over night. (This whole part had taken place the day before, on March 18.)

The following day, we celebrated my mom's birthday at dinner time! Our wonderful dessert bakers took the crème brulée out of the fridge in order to add the final touches!

Adding a sugar layer over the creamy part!

And of course, the distinctive final touch! This was my brother's first time using a crème brulée torch, and I think he did a really good job! He created that wonderful, glassy texture on the top by melting that sugary layer. I was so happy to have the chance to try one with everyone!

And voila! This was the dessert they made for my mom's birthday! I think it turned out great! We got to sing happy birthday and everything, but most importantly, we got to spend time together as a family, and appreciate being with each other. That's what I think celebrations have always been important for!

That's all I have to say for now! I'll leave off with another time-lapse I recorded. This one was from March 18. It was dark and gloomy for most of the day, and there was a brief moment of sun in the morning that didn't last. But suddenly, at the very end of the day, the sun managed to break through the clouds to create a beautiful picture of colours that illuminated the grey sky. It only lasted a few minutes, but it was truly a precious gift.

Take care, everyone!
